"Hiking" into Smuggler's Notch in Winter
It has been quite a while since my last post. Most of this is due to laziness on my part, but I can't cross out having to do a bunch of course work that keeps me busy. Anyways, it was finally warm enough this past winter to actually go out for a "hike." Well, we didn't actually hike up a trail, rather we parked the car where Route 108 is closed off at Smuggler's Notch, and walked up the road. As you can see the road is not plowed and the snow is packed down firm. No need for snowshoes here. During the winter Smuggler's Notch is turned into a snow covered skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, hiking path because no plow can fit up at the top. As I said, we just stopped the car and walked on up the road. It was wonderful. The packed snow makes for an easy walk and there are few people on the road. The only thing to look out for is the occasional back country skier or snowboarder gliding down the road or coming out of the trees. Other than that, this is a
