"Hike" in Warsaw, NY

I know it has been a long time since I last posted, but things have been busy for me. We went to visit family in Western New York in the middle of the month and so hiking was out of the question. Well, almost out of the question. Warsaw, NY offers a grand total of one "hike." It is not difficult, nor does it take very long to reach your destination, but it is worth seeing.

First, you must realize that Warsaw sits in a steep valley. There are two creeks that flow through Warsaw, the Oatka (that is pronounced oh-AT-ka) creek and the Stony Brook creek. The Oatka runs north through the valley while the Stony Brook joins the Oatka in the center of town after coming off the hillside. The Warsaw Falls happens when the Stony Brook falls into the valley below.

Getting to the Warsaw Falls is easy. First find the Warsaw Park, hint it is on Liberty St, you can't miss it. Drive to the corner of the park where the sledding hill is located, again you can't miss it. From here you "hike" begins. You can either go to the corner of the grass and find the path, or walk up the sledding hill until you come across the path that goes south, it will be on your left. Take this path until you reach the creek. From here you can follow the creek until you come to the falls, about a half hour if you want to stay dry shorter if you don't care about getting wet. Or you can climb up along the top of the cliff that follows the creek. For this "hike" we followed the creek, but I do have pictures from the top of the falls. You don't have to be in much shape to do this "hike," but if you want to be lazier you can walk down from Buck Rd. At the top of the falls is a set of railroad tracks, if you are lucky a train will come and greet you.

I do have pictures of our "hike" and of the falls at the end. This is a mostly quiet hike since most people in Warsaw either don't know it exists or don't care to go to it. I do recommend a trip to see the falls as it is about the only outdoor thing you can do in Warsaw besides farming.

Of course this doesn't necessarily apply here, but
