"Hike" up Mt. Philo
As you can probably tell I am not really calling this a true hike. Yes, it takes you through a wooded trail that rises to the top of a "mountain" (Mt. Philo is 968 feet high) and you can break a sweat (Well, that is if it is a hot humid day like the one we hiked). This does not make it a hike; it is more like a walk in the wood to reach a good vantage point. All along the trail were children ranging from babies on up. We even saw out of shape people taking this walk in the wood without a problem. If you were thinking that even knowing that a two year old could handle this hike, but you would have trouble with it then there is no reason to worry. You could be on your deathbed and still make it to the top. There is a road that leads right up to the top. I have a couple of pictures proving this. The first is a group of elderly who could have had a heart attack if they attempted to scale the, barely, dizzying heights of Mt. Philo. The other shows the parking lot at the top with an elderly couple in chairs staring out over the view that is afforded those who tempted fate and drove up the "mountain."
To reach the base of this opposing hill all you have to do is take Route 7 through Charlotte, Vt and watch for the signs that tell you where Mt. Philo State Park is. Hint you take State Park Rd. To give Mt. Philo credit, it is the oldest state park in Vermont.
To rank this hike. I say it is tougher than the stroll to see Warsaw Falls, but easier than Prospect Rock. For those of you in New York this means it is about the same as Letchworth State Park.
Until next time remember:
The Mountain Grows Taller Around Every Bend In The Trail. (Hopefully Mt. Philo has a growth spurt)

Great place for sledding in the winter too!
